The program is a community effort to educate ourselves about foreign affairs and international crises that often receive far too little public and media attention. Participants piece together what is happening on the ground using credible, accessible public resources—drawing on foreign policy institutes, established news outlets, and podcasts. We will learn about the dynamics driving global conflict while focusing on the human cost to the people living through them and the wider community.
Open Inquiry

Constructive Dialogue
Discussions are structured to encourage participants to take on and evaluate outside viewpoints and alternative ideas. Attendees challenge common assumptions and evaluate underlying regional interests. This is not an academic lecture or a debate platform; rather, sessions offer a direct, face-to-face opportunity to examine complex international realities. In the process, the group will use practical communication skills to discuss geopolitical issues constructively and from a problem-solving standpoint.
Community Engagement
Our neighbors, colleagues, friends, and fellow residents of Washington, D.C. have deep personal relationships in active conflict zones around the world. Living with the reality of conflict abroad can take a toll on our mental and emotional well-being, especially when we have no one to share our feelings and opinions with. The program provides a balance between delivering educational background and facilitated open dialogue with participants. Through these guided sessions, participants will connect with others, find common ground, and build relationships that endure beyond the library.
